Journalist From NowThis News

The news outlet I chose to look at for the first assignment was NowThis New and the journalist I chose to do research on is Carly Figueroa. Carly is currently a senior producer and journalist at NowThis News. The two social media platforms that I found the journalist on were Twitter and Facebook. I would say the main site that she uses is Twitter. She has over 3,000 tweets and over 2,000 followers. I found it interesting that she has more tweets than she does followers. Her twitter consists of a lot of tweets and posts that have to do with her strong devotion to being a feminist. A lot of her tweets are about the women’s right’s movement and spreading awareness for the rally’s and other women’s rights events. Some of her other tweets are about breaking news and stories on NowThis news. Lastly, from what I can see her Facebook is more of a personal site. She has a few posts about empowering women, but most of it is pictures of her with friends and family.

I believe she is making the full use of her Twitter. She seems to be tweeting a lot about things she believes in, spreading awareness, and delivering news. In chapter 3 it talked about the 80/20 rule and I believe Carly does a good job with this rule on her Twitter. 80% of her tweets and posts are professional and the other 20% are about women’s rights, which shows her personality because it is something she feels strongly about and believes in. Something I noticed about both her Facebook and her Twitter is that they are designed nicely and make you want to keep reading and engaging in her sites and what she has to say. Lastly, if I had one suggestion for her it would be to use her Facebook in a more professional way and then have her own separate personal page.
